SUMITA provides optical fibers manufactured by our unique optical glass technologies as end products.

SUMITA's optical fibers are multicomponent optical fibers manufactured from optical glass as their raw materials.

We offer various types of fibers, which are not provided by competitors, by utilizing our manufacturing technologies for optical glass. Glass optical fiber has excellent transmissivity and is used in various fields such as industry, medicine, and general lighting.

Applications

Image processing
By combining a line light guide and light source equipment, it is possible to respond to various wavelengths and shapes for uniform lighting.

Medical
By using an image guide prepared by bundling several thousands or several tens of thousands of glass optical fibers, it is possible to obtain high-quality images.

Sensor
There can roughly divided into two types; those that detect transmitted light and those that detect reflected light. Since both types require projecting fiber and receiving fiber respectively, we offer both types according to applications.

General lighting
Lighting by glass optical fibers offers gentle light that produces less temperature increases and can prevent aging of the display such as color fading and damage.

Light Guide
When a number of optical fibbers are bundled for transmitting light, it is called a light guide.

Light Source
We offer various light sources such as a metal halide lamp and halogen lamp according to required wavelength specification from the ultraviolet range to near-infrared range.

Condenser Lens
A condenser lens can shed bright and uniform light on a subject.
We offer various shapes to allow our customer can select one according to the light guide.

Rod Lens
A rod lens illuminates a square area uniformly.
It is best suitable for lighting for display or substrate check.

End Fusion Light Guide
This light guide is manufactured by thermal fusion binding of fibers without using adhesive.
Features

  • Improved heat resistance due to nonuse of adhesive
  • Increased total engagement light intensity with the same OF (Optical Fiber) diameter due to increased core occupied area
  • Increase of emission light intensity by up to 25% due to increased engagement light intensity
  • Decrease of illuminance due to W.D. (Working distance) is less than that of adhesively-bonded light guide

Transmission Light
A transmission light is a lateral luminescent line lighting using a quartz rod.
It is best suitable for inspection lighting using a CCD or line sensor.
Features

  • Since nearly parallel irradiation light with high directionality can be obtained, uniform lighting with less unevenness of light intensity is possible.
  • Free design of an irradiation width between 2 and 10 mm (standard value: 5 mm) and an effective luminescent length between 100 and 2,700 mm is possible.
  • There is no limitation of subject because heat irradiation from the irradiation surface is low.
  • Since the transmission light and light source part are separated, maintenance works such as replacement of lamp are easy.
